About Sports Car Facts

An independent reference for people who want to know how many road-going sports cars were really built, when, and who says so.

What this site is

Sports Car Facts follows factory-built, road-legal sports cars from the 1930s to today: the roadsters, coupes and mid-engined specials that enthusiasts argue about. Each model has a written history, a generation-by-generation timeline, its production and sales figures, and a numbered list of the sources behind every claim. The catalog is deliberately narrower than the whole industry, so each entry can be researched properly.

Why it exists

Production totals are among the most repeated and least checked numbers in the hobby. A figure copied from one website to the next can trace back to nothing at all. This site keeps the number, the source and the scope side by side, and where credible sources disagree it shows every figure instead of quietly choosing one. The methodology page explains the order of trust.

How it stays independent

The site is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any manufacturer, club or registry, and no one pays to be included or described favorably.

Who runs it

Bill Pierce builds the CarFacts reference sites and edits this one. It is a small operation, so a reply can take a few days.

Corrections and contact

Every page has a link to report an error, and the report form is the way to reach Bill: the site has no public email address. Reports are read in a private queue. A correction that comes with a source is the most useful kind: a chassis register, a factory document, a dated press release or a period road test all count. Accepted corrections change the page.

Sister sites

The same approach runs through the other CarFacts sites. This catalog leaves four marques to their own sites:

The rest of the family:

What it is not

Much of the catalog rests on published histories and specialist press rather than factory ledgers, and each page's source list shows which. Nothing on this site is a buying recommendation or a valuation.
